The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for the Lower River Ure, which flows through Masham, Ripon and Boroughbridge.
The alert, which was put out at 8.55pm this evening, is the first for the Harrogate district after a day of snow and rain.
Earlier this evening, North Yorkshire Police urged motorists not to travel tonight unless it was essential due to floodwater on roads.
The Environment Agency said:
River levels are rising in response to heavy rainfall and snow melt associated with Storm Bert. Flooding is possible tonight and into tomorrow, Sunday.
Areas most at risk include low lying land and local roads in the areas around Masham, Boroughbridge, Aldborough and Bishop Monkton.
Further rainfall is expected, though it will be lighter than Saturdays rainfall. Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourse and do not attempt to walk, drive or cycle through flood water.
