Hair stylists from Knaresborough and Harrogate have helped to break a Guinness world record in Ibiza.

They joined hundreds of fellow hairdressers in an attempt to set a new record for the most people styling hair simultaneously.

The attempt, which took place in Ibiza on Tuesday (October 8) saw 478 hairdressers participate to set a new record.

Kelly Teggin, owner of Kelly Teggin Hair and Beauty on Knaresborough’s Castlegate, and principal stylist Helen Baxter were among those taking part.

So were Sarah Hargreaves and Luke Buck from The Secret Salon in Starbeck.

It took place at Vara de Ray, the central pedestrianised street in Ibiza town, at 6.30pm and guests received complimentary styling for free.

Italian hair brand, Z.One Concept, decided to mark its 25th anniversary by setting up the challenge.

Ms Teggin told the Stray Ferret she found out about the event at this year’s Milkshake hair products conference in Ibiza. Milkshake is a brand owned by Z.One Concept.

To apply to be involved, each stylist had to send off their qualifications and insurance documents to prove they were eligible.

Ms Teggin said:

We had to style hair for a full 10 minutes, using styling tongs or straightening then putting hair up or styling, continuously touching and styling.

Stylists worked on a 300-metre table and a drone was deployed to oversee the event. Each model had a before and after photo.

Ms Teggin said:

The atmosphere from start to finish was electric, the organisers put a lot of money and effort into the event. It’s been three incredible days that we will never forget.
