A Harrogate woman will complete the London Marathon this year, while pushing her dad in a wheelchair.

Katy Wright, of Hornbeam Park, will complete the 26.2-mile course with her boyfriend, two friends, and her dad, next Sunday (April 27).

Katy was allocated one of 10 assisted wheelchair places, where up to four support runners are allowed.

The team of runners are raising money for Brain Research UK.

In 2011, Katy’s father, Tony, was hit by a car and was left with lasting brain damage, leaving him unable to walk.

Despite being told he may never talk and eat again, Katy said that the “incredible” care he received at Leeds Infirmary meant he was able to do both within a year.

In a fundraiser posted online, she said:

Brain Research UK fund lifesaving research along with research to reduce the impact of neurological conditions to help people live better and longer.

It's so important their work can carry on to improve the outcomes for people who experience neurological conditions or injury.

Katy and her team did a 19 mile training run across the Stray this weekend.

Katy’s father is currently a Baildon resident and has always lived in Yorkshire. He was a keen runner prior to the accident and ran the Great North Run with Katy twice. She said she was “so pleased” that they could do this race together next week.

The fundraiser has since accumulated £2,179 from 74 different donors. To donate, click here.
