Two Harrogate teenagers temporarily ditched Tik Tok and Playstations to raise money for a ticket to the local fair.

Outwood Academy pupil Bailey O’Hara-Glew, 14, and Rossett School pupil Anthony Beaumont, 13, last week set up a stall outside the Co-op on Knaresborough Road.

The teens wanted to raise money to visit the recent fair in Pannal without having to ask their parents for money.

Their mum’s told the Stray Ferret the boys “used their initiatives” to set up the stand and initially sold their old toys, books and clothes that no longer fit them.

But Maxine O’Hara-Glew said nearby residents “really got behind the boys” and "could never have imagined" the support they received:

People were driving past and beeping their horns and posting the boys on Facebook. They even started donating things for the boys to sell.

The boys left the table overnight – intending to return and continue their business venture the next day – but someone mistakenly took it believing it was "scrap", a reader told the Stray Ferret.

However, this did not stop the boys and they were soon back to business with a new table and more stock to sell.

Ms O’Hara-Glew said the stall gave the boys a “sense of what working will be like – just sitting there all day”.

Both mums expressed how proud they are of their sons, and Ms O’Hara-Glew estimated they raised “a couple of hundred pounds between them”.

But both women felt there is little on offer for teenagers in the area, adding it is "refreshing" to see young boys spending their time productively.

The boys went to the fair last week using the money they earned to buy their tickets.

Ms Millington, Anthony's mum, said she expects the boys' next venture will be raising money to fund a trip to the local circus.
