A planning document says the pool could look like this.

David Lloyd has applied to install an outdoor swimming pool at its Jennyfields site in Harrogate.

The gym and leisure club, on Oakdale Place, wants to convert its existing outdoor tennis courts. The conversion would not affect the two outdoor padel courts.

The company, which has two indoor carpet tennis courts and two indoor acrylic tennis courts at its Harrogate site, said in planning documents that the outdoor courts are “underused”.

The club also says there have been “considerable requests” for an improvement to its outside facilities.

The application to North Yorkshire Council says the pool would be built close to the existing building. The existing terrace would then be extended to provide easier access and increased outdoor space for members.

The proposed expansion would cover 1,054.8 square metres, with the pool terrace at 730.3 square metres and the extended terrace at 324.5 square metres.

The proposed site, which would also include sunbeds, would allow direct access from the existing outdoor terrace and the internal tennis hall.

A new access route would be introduced to the existing Battle Box area, which sits adjacent to the proposed area.

There would be no changes to the existing 184 parking spaces on site.

The current outdoor tennis courts are "underused".

David Lloyd says the change would bring “significant benefits for members’ fitness as well as mental wellbeing”.

The site is currently surrounded by woodland. The company claims the development would have no significant impact on surrounding homes.

A decision has yet to be made by North Yorkshire Council.
