Four fire crews were called to the scene of a blaze at a residential apartment in Harrogate today.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s incident report says firefighters from Harrogate, Knaresborough, Ripon and Tadcaster responded to reports of a fire to the loft of the flat within a four-storey building at 1.12pm.

It did not disclose which street the incident happened on.

After gaining access to the loft, firefighters located and extinguished the fire.

According to the report, they had to “cut away plasterboard and beams to check for hotspots”, the log says, adding an aerial ladder platform was used to carry out an external inspection.

The incident summary adds:

Crews ventilated the property.

The fire was believed to be caused by a fire hood of a downlight that had been knocked, resulting in a pillow in the loft catching fire, and spreading to the loft space.

The report said 90% of the loft and 30% of the hallway were fire damaged, while 100% of the flat suffered smoke damage.

Crews used four breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet, a thermal imaging camera and “small tools” to tackle the blaze, the log added.

No further details have been released.
