Work which will transform the former Booths building in Ripon into a Tesco superstore has begun at Marshall Way retail park.

Portable cabins are in place and the middle section of the car park has been fenced off to provide parking spaces for construction workers’ vehicles.

The central section of the Marshall Way car park has been fenced off.

Last month, the retail giant confirmed that all 95 former Booths staff have been given the opportunity to transfer to the new Tesco store.

The Stray Ferret understands that the store, which will include a Tesco café, is scheduled to open in November in time for the crucial Christmas trading period.

Upmarket grocer Booths opened in Ripon in 2009 as the anchor unit in the Marshall Way development. In May, the Stray Ferret exclusively revealed that the lease on the 18,000 sq ft premises was being transferred to Tesco, which told us:

Following a short closure the Booths Ripon store will reopen as a Tesco store later this year.

Meanwhile, as work begins at Marshall Way, Tesco is planning an October opening for its superstore in the New Park area of Harrogate.
