A man has admitted to threatening to damage or destroy someone’s property.

James McGlinchey, of High Street in Pateley Bridge, appeared at York Magistrates Court on Monday (February 24).

McGlinchey appeared at court for trial after originally denying the charge last month. He also denied one count of harassment without violence and one count of assaulting an emergency worker by beating at the time.

However, the defendant changed his pleas to guilty at the trial.

According to a court document, the 36-year-old threatened to put a bomb in a named woman’s letterbox at her Harrogate home on New Year’s Day.

McGlinchey intended the woman would fear the threat would be carried out, the document adds.

McGlinchey also harassed another named woman without violence between November 9, 2024, and New Year’s Day this year.

The court document says the defendant "subjected her to unwanted contact”.

On January 3 this year, McGlinchey assaulted a police officer.

The offence happened at Harrogate Police Station, where the defendant assaulted a named police officer by beating him.

McGlinchey was released on conditional bail. He will return to York Magistrates Court for another hearing on March 19.
