The far-reaching effects of a cyber attack on an American technology company could be seen today at a Ripon supermarket.

Stocks of fresh produce were running low at the Morrisons store on Harrogate Road, after Arizona-based supply chain technology provider Blue Yonder was hit with ransomware.

The Stray Ferret approached the retail giant to ask when stock levels would be back to normal in Ripon and its stores in Boroughbridge and Harrogate, where low stock levels have also been reported in recent days.

A spokesperson said:

We are recovering quickly and our back-up system is working well. In some supermarkets there are still a few areas and product lines where availability has not yet fully recovered, but we are making good progress.

Blue Yonder, which provides managed services for Morrisons and other major companies, issued a statement which said:

On Nov. 21, 2024, Blue Yonder experienced disruptions to its managed services hosted environment, which was determined to be the result of a ransomware incident.

Blue Yonder has been working diligently together with external cybersecurity firms and hardened our defensive and forensic protocols.

We are making good progress, several of our impacted customers have been brought back online, and we are actively working directly with others to return them to normal business operations.
