A former North Yorkshire Police constable has been dismissed from the force after he sent a photo of his penis to a colleague.

James Spencer, previously based in the Crime Recording and Occurrence Management Unit in York, breached the standards of Professional Behaviour relating to Discreditable Conduct and Authority Respect and Courtesy.

He sent an unsolicited photograph of his penis to another officer last year while he was off duty.

An internal hearing for gross misconduct was held into the matter.

PC Spencer admitted the breach and that his behaviour amounted to gross misconduct.

Chief constable Tim Forber chaired the hearing at North Yorkshire Police's Alverton Court headquarters in Northallerton yesterday (August 1).

He dismissed Mr Spencer with immediate effect and he will now be placed on the College of Policing’s police barred list.

CC Forber said:

North Yorkshire Police treats violence against women and girls and sexual impropriety by police officers with the utmost seriousness. We are determined to tackle these issues, and the actions of PC Spencer significantly undermine our ability to do so, and public trust and confidence in policing generally. It is completely contrary to the standards that I expect from officers in this force

PC Spencer was suspended from duty during the investigation.

He is the second officer banned from the force in the last month.

Just a few weeks ago another officer was banned from the force after a misconduct hearing was held into allegations he sexually assaulted a woman while on duty.

The hearing was the latest in a recent spate of North Yorkshire Police officers being suspended or facing charges.

It was also revealed earlier this year that two more officers had been suspended on full pay.
