The Royal Oak in Pateley Bridge has paid tribute to a member of staff who died in the early hours of yesterday morning when he was hit by a vehicle.
North Yorkshire Police said yesterday a 19-year-old man died after being struck while he was believed to have been walking from Pateley Bridge to Glasshouses.
He died sometime between 1.44am and 3.10am.
The Royal Oak on Bridgehousegate, which closed its kitchen yesterday, said in a social media message today:
It is with the deepest regret and the heaviest of hearts we have to confirm that the 19-year-old who was killed in the hit and run was Bailey. The most loveable, caring, trustworthy, happy, smiley, beautiful young man we have ever had the honour of working with. A true gentlemen and friend.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time and I would ask everyone to bear with us a little bit as there’s is a rather large hole to fill both personally and professionally for each and every one of our team.
Fly high our Bailey. We love you Matey x Dan, Jacko and Team Royal Oak
The post prompted numerous comments about how much Bailey will be missed, with one saying: “The death of Bailey has left the whole community devasted. He was such a genuinely lovely young man, a real credit to his mum.”
Police have appealed for anyone who was driving in the area at the time to get in touch.
St Cuthbert’s Church in the town will be open again today until 9pm for prayer.
Reverend Darryl Hall said:
If you’d like somewhere quiet to sit, light a candle, say a prayer, or write a message to hang on the Prayer Tree, please do come in. The door is open for anyone who needs a space to reflect, grieve, or simply be still. You are not alone.
Anyone with information about the collision is urged by police to email its major collision investigation team at mcit@northyorkshire.police.uk or call 101, quoting reference number 12250133851.
