Many people in Harrogate are continuing to experience major problems using their phones.
The Stray Ferret reported on Friday that an O2 outage had affected customers in the town for a few days, leaving people unable to access mobile data, iMessage and make calls.
At the time an O2 spokesperson said:
We are carrying out planned upgrades on a mast in Harrogate to ensure we continue to provide fast and reliable connectivity to our customers in the area. This may have caused some short-term disruption.
The company's service status map said normal service was due to resume by 8pm that night.
But five days later, the network is still plagued by limited signal and a slower phone service than usual.
O2 has an agreement to share masts with Vodafone, whose customers have also been affected.
Vodafone’s service update currently states:
There’s a problem with our mobile network in this area at the moment that may be causing issues with your service. We’re sorry if you’re experiencing any disruption, we know how frustrating this can be. Thanks for your patience.
While O2’s service map says:
Looks like a phone mast near to you isn't working as it should, sorry. Our engineers are on the case but your service might come and go until we fix it.
The Stray Ferret contacted O2 again today for further details on when the situation is expected to be resolved. A spokesperson said:
We are carrying out planned upgrades on a mast in Harrogate to ensure we continue to provide fast and reliable connectivity to our customers in the area. After arriving on site, it became clear that additional work was needed which requires permission from the site owner. We are awaiting this and apologise for any inconvenience caused.
