Champagne + Fromage seeks approval to convert the former unit on Royal Parade.

Plans to convert a former Harrogate skin clinic into a French bistro have been submitted.

Champagne + Fromage - which, as the name suggests, centres mainly on French champagne and cheeses - has lodged plans to turn the former The Spa Clinic unit on Royal Parade into its sixth UK site.

The company, which boasts venues in London, Bath, Chester and the Isle of Wight, has submitted two applications to North Yorkshire Council, seeking permission to convert the vacant unit and display signage outside.

According to planning documents, the company seeks to alter the layout of the interior to create a kitchen, a dining area, a service counter and toilets.

If approved, Champagne + Fromage would also redecorate the inside of the unit and install non-structural fittings.

No changes will be made to the building’s structure, plans say, but the exterior would be painted dark green with the company’s branding displayed at the front of the site.

Champagne + Fromage also proposes to create a small outdoor seating area at the front of the unit, with branded barriers surrounding it.

Plans say:

The proposed change of use and internal redecoration will provide a vibrant, high-quality restaurant in a sustainable, town-centre location.

The design has been developed to ensure no adverse impact on the character or appearance of the building or surrounding Conservation Area. All access provisions remain in place and fully compliant with current regulations.

Plans describe Champagne + Fromage, which first opened its doors in Covent Garden in 2011, as a boutique bistro and delicatessen that “combines the elegance of French cuisine with a casual, rustic charm”.

“Specialising in grower champagne and artisan cheeses sourced directly from independent French producers, the business offers a distinctive dining and retail experience”, the change of use application adds.

Champagne + Fromage offers a range of French champagnes, cheeses, sharing boards and bar snacks.

The restaurant also serves range of traditional French dishes such as raclette and fondue, but menus vary dependent on the venue.

Plans say the new restaurant would create six-to-eight jobs locally, including managerial and supervisor positions, and would benefit the local economy.

Champagne + Fromage Harrogate would operate from 11am to 10pm, Sunday to Thursday, and 11am to 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays, should plans be approved.

The council will issue a verdict on the plans at a later date.
