Readers’ Letters is a free weekly column giving you the chance to have your say on issues affecting the Harrogate district. It is an opinion column and does not reflect the views of the Stray Ferret. Send your views to letters@thestrayferret.co.uk.
This week, we've collated some of our readers' comments, which have been left in the comments section on various stories.
This reader left a comment expressing concern after plans to trial a land train in Knaresborough were approved. The reader feels the money being used to fund the land train could be put towards something else.
I really can’t believe this is being funded when the fate of the market hangs in the balance.
For residents of Knaresborough, what are the benefits? None.
The amount of money to be found in savings from withdrawing the stall set up is around £30,000. This money would go halfway to solving the problem.
If this money is available, then it should support something for local residents, not businesses.
If the business community want a land train, then by all means go ahead and fund it.
This proposal makes no sense.

This comment was left on a story about North Yorkshire Council facing criticism for spending £450,000 on consultants' fees to help improve cycling and walking in Harrogate and Knaresborough – without delivering a substantial scheme to date.
It is easy to spend other people’s money and get nothing for it.
The council can’t find £13,000 for Ripon and Knaresborough markets, but it’s easy to find the money and then get nothing.
Next year, they will state council tax will have to increase because they are short of money.

This comment was left on a story about Dame Judi Dench supporting plans to save a veteran tree, which is under threat as part of Ripon Cathedral’s controversial annexe plans.
The Dean continues to wholly miss the point.
As stated, this is public land - this is an urban green space. The majority of Ripon’s people do not want the building.
It will serve a minority, and it is doubtful it will benefit the town.

This comment was left on our free story about Harrogate Bus Company introducing £1 fares for people aged 19 and under.
I can see this being an issue after a short amount of time. How is this being financially supported?
Bus services ought to be self-sustaining. As tempting as £2 and £1 journeys are, they can't achieve that.
