The owner of Ripley’s village shop has submitted a planning application to convert a former distillery into a shop and ice cream parlour.
As we reported last month, Ripley Store is to move from its familiar shop on Ripley’s main street to new premises across the road that were formerly occupied by gin distiller Harrogate Tipple.
Owner Jon Peters told us that the new site would enable the business to expand, with more outdoor seating and hopefully also an alcohol licence.
Documents submitted with the application show that the new premises, which were occupied by Scatchard’s Garage before they were used as a distillery, will include a shop display area and counter, ice cream counter and ice cream kitchen, main kitchen and large indoor seating area, plus storerooms. Hot and cold food will be served to eat on the premises or to take away.
Ripley Store's new site used to be Scatchard's Garage and was latterly home to gin distiller Harrogate Tipple.
The date that North Yorkshire has set as its target for a decision on the case is October 14.
Last month, Mr Peters, who runs the business with wife Kirsty and their two daughters, told the Stray Ferret:
We only had a couple of years left on the lease, and when the Ripley Estate went on the market in November, we didn’t know if the new owner would be willing to extend it.
So when the old distillery came up for sale, we decided to make the move.
The business will still trade from its usual location until the end of September, but Mr Peters said he hoped to open on the new site on October 1, with no interruption to service.
