Ripon paddling pool opens in time for school holidays
The public paddling pool in Ripon has been filled and reopened today, just in time for the school summer holidays.
Extensive checks have now been completed at the pool in Borrage Green, after problems were identified during routine maintenance work.
The pool’s paint was stripped and the surface treated before a new coating was applied, and the draining systems have also been surveyed.
Another padding pool in the Valley Gardens in Harrogate opened last month after being fully repainted, and a survey of the drainage system carried out.
A scouncil spokesperson said that work to open the padding pool at Bebra Gardens in Knaresborough is "entering its final stages".
North Yorkshire Council’s executive member of highways and transport, Cllr Malcolm Taylor, whose responsibilities include parks and grounds, said:
We would like to thank the public for their patience while essential work has been carried out to the three paddling pools.
We have seen families making the most of the Harrogate pool in the good weather and we are pleased that Ripon can open in time for the school holidays.
The pool in Knaresborough is due to open soon, and we will keep the public updated when we have a date confirmed.
The three paddling pools are usually opened to the public at the start of the summer season, on the late May bank holiday weekend, but this year problems with all three of them prevented them from being used.
