A Ripon woman has been jailed for a string of thefts.
Kelly Rutherford, of King Edward Road, pleaded guilty to three counts of theft from a shop at York Magistrates Court on Tuesday (August 26).
According to court documents, Rutherford stole £60 of groceries from the Co-op on Harrogate’s Skipton Road on August 4.
The following day, she stole drinks worth £9.25 from the Co-op on King Edward’s Drive in Harrogate.
Rutherford, 24, then returned to the Skipton Road store on August 14, when she stole £39 worth of goods.
Rutherford breached a suspended sentence by committing the offences and was jailed for a total of 18 weeks.
She was handed a 12-week sentence, suspended for 12 months, in May for a theft offence committed in January. Rutherford was then handed an additional six weeks for the recent shop thefts.
The offences are so serious that only a custodial sentence could be justified, court documents say, adding Rutherford has a “flagrant disregard” for court orders, people and their property.
The defendant was also ordered to pay £108.25 in compensation.
