The latest addition to Harrogate’s hospitality scene will officially open its doors tonight (July 2).
The Barologist, which has taken over the unit formerly occupied by The Harrogate Arms on Parliament Street, markets itself as a “the quirky cocktail bar”.
The Stray Ferret was given a sneak preview of the weather-themed bar, which features a fog generator and a machine that makes thunder and lightning noises.
“People will get a different experience each time they come in”, manager Pete Murphy says.
The bar, which has relocated to the town after five years of operating in Edinburgh, is one of 17 venues led by The Discovery Group.
A spokesperson for the group said The Barologist has a “unique blend of theatrical flar, immersive décor and expertly crafted cocktails”, and people can expect to feel as though they have “stepped into the barologist’s home”.

Alongside a selection of wines and draught products, The Barologist also offers a range of themed drinks, including cocktails based on Turkish delight and branded sweets.
People can even scan a QR code and upload a photo which will be printed on their drink.
Food will also be served at the site, which Pete said would “not be mass produced”.
“It will be cooked fresh; people aren’t getting packet macaroni and cheese”, he adds.
The menu includes burgers and charcuterie boards, as well as pub classics such as fish and chips, pies and sharing platters.
One of the bar's quirky features...
The Barologist will offer bottomless brunches, live music, mixology masterclasses and weekly quizzes, and a section of the venue can be hired out for events.
Sports will also be shown on the several televisions across the bar.
The Stray Ferret asked Pete what makes The Barologist stand out in a town with a wide variety of bars and restaurants.
He said:
It’s more about the unique experience; there’s nowhere that has the machines and contraptions like here. I would also tell people not to go off past experiences at the site – come in and see what it is like now.
The bar features a number of contraptions, including the barologist's 'computer'.

Jobs were transferred from The Harrogate Arms to The Barologist following the former venue’s closure.
The Barologist will operate from midday until 11pm, Sunday to Thursday.
It will open from midday until 12am on Fridays, and from noon until 1am on Saturdays.
