North Yorkshire Police has named a Spofforth man as one of two people killed in a plane crash near Selby yesterday.
Matthew Bird, 21, was the pilot of the two-seater light aircraft, police said today in a statement.
The force was yesterday called to a field in Thorganby at around 9.50am, and later said two men were pronounced dead at the scene.
Matthew’s family paid tribute to him today:
Yesterday we lost our son, a brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend.
Matthew meant so much to so many. We are utterly heartbroken but he will live on in our hearts as we cherish the incredibly special memories he’s left us with.
Oliver Dawes
Police said an investigation into the crash, and the circumstances surrounding it, will continue today.
Oliver Dawes, a 24-year-old from Burley in Wharfedale, was also named as the passenger that died alongside Matthew.
His family released a similar statement, which said Oliver would "continue to live on in our hearts".
