Tesco has bought the Ripon branch of Booths.
Staff at the Marshall Way grocers were asked to be on site today (May 20) for an announcement, at which the news was revealed.
The Stray Ferret understands the deal will be completed on August 11 and the store will be rebranded as Tesco.
Booths employs about 90 staff in Ripon, which is one of 27 stores listed on the company’s website. Most are in Lancashire and Cumbria, with only Ripon, Ilkley and Settle listed for Yorkshire.
The Ripon store, which includes a cafe, is the company’s most easterly location.
It is not believed other Booths stores are being sold.
Ripon is well served for supermarkets but Booths was seen as an upmarket alternative with a loyal customer base.
Staff are said to be shocked at the news.
The Stray Ferret has contacted Booths and Tesco for more details and will add more details when we receive them.
