Thieves have stolen 1,000 litres of diesel from a housebuilding site in Harrogate.
According to a North Yorkshire Police appeal, criminals struck at Persimmon Homes’ Long Lands View site in the Kingsley area of the town.
Police said the culprits “syphoned off over 1,000 litres of diesel fuel from four machines on site” between 4pm on Friday, April 10 and 7.20am on Monday, April 13.
With UK diesel prices currently averaging 191.5p per litre, the fuel is worth about £1,915.
According to the motoring organisation the RAC, the average prices of petrol and diesel both increased by record monthly amounts in March due to war in Iran.
Police urged anyone with information or CCTV footage of the incident on Kingsley Road to call 101, quoting reference 12260065477.
Persimmon, which is one of the big three UK housebuilders alongside Barratt Redrow and Taylor Wimpey, received planning permission to build 162 homes at the site on Kingsley Drive, near Harrogate High School, in February 2023.
Work to build the homes is ongoing.
Persimmon is marketing one to four-bedroom homes in the £320,950 to £524,950 bracket at the site.
The Stray Ferret asked Persimmon about the theft but has not yet had a response.
