Travellers have set up an encampment in Knaresborough.
Cars and caravans have been arriving at Fysche Field behind the new Knaresborough Leisure and Wellness Centre today.
It is the second local traveller encampment in recent days, after one was set up on Oatlands playing fields off Hookstone Road on Wednesday (May 29).
Appleby Horse Fair begins in Cumbria on Thursday, two days before Knaresborough hosts its annual bed race.
Councillor Matt Walker, a Liberal Democrat who represents Knaresborough West on North Yorkshire Council, said:
I will be contacting officers at North Yorkshire Council this morning to make sure they are aware and putting plans in place to legally remove them.
Karl Battersby, corporate director of environment at the council, said:
Following reports from the public, we will be visiting the encampment at Fysche Field in Knaresborough and will serve notice on those illegally camped to move.
The council is following the legal processes in place to deal with illegal encampments, which it is important are followed. We will continue to work with North Yorkshire Police in relation to this matter.
