Copthall Bridge

The opening of a Harrogate office block has been delayed after a six-year closure.

Copthall Bridge, on Station Bridge, closed in November 2018 after businesses working at the site were told to vacate.

The former Harrogate Borough Council approved plans to re-clad and re-paint areas of the building in 2022.

Harrogate construction firm HACS has caried out the redevlopment, which has required lengthy roadwork.

One lane and a footpath on Station Bridge closed in October 2023 and were initially due to reopen in April this year.

The Stray Ferret approached WorkWell Offices, which owns and will operate the site, in June to ask for an update after the road still had not reopened.

A spokesperson said at the time the office block would open in November and the roadworks would be removed in September.

However, neither the road nor the office block has re-opened yet. North Yorkshire Council’s roadworks map now says the road closures are to stay in place until December 20 – more than eight months behind schedule – and work is still being carried out on the building.

The Stray Ferret approached WorkWell Office again and asked for an updated opening date.

A spokesperson today said:

We are due to welcome the first few clients into their new offices in December with the completed site due to launch in January.

We encountered delays with the build which impacted the launch of the site.

The Stray Ferret asked what the building delays were but the spokesperson did not provide a response to that enquiry.

Computer-generated images of the 38,000-square-foot site, shown below, depict communal workspaces with private meeting rooms and a refreshment area.

WorkWell says the space includes private offices and suites, meeting rooms, a wellbeing room and round-the-clock access and security, as well as on-site parking and bike storage.

There are also shower and kitchen facilities, it says.
