Harrogate’s first Bling Ball raises £33,000 for Mind
Mind in Harrogate District’s first-ever black-tie Bling Ball last weekend raised £33,000 towards a new mental health service to support local children and young people.
The event was held at the Sun Pavilion in Harrogate’s Valley Gardens on Saturday (November 23).
Local and national businesses contributed auction and raffle prizes, including holidays in Menorca, Devon and the Lake District, as well as behind-the-scenes VIP experiences at the Tour of Flanders cycle race and Northern Ballet.
The prizes went under the hammer in an auction hosted by Richard Smailes of FSS Property and there was also a best bling outfit award, sponsored by financial advisors Prosperis.
The funds will go towards the creation of services for young people aged five to 18, including counselling, group mental health support and drawing and talking interventions for primary school children.
John and Pat Barnes, lead organisers and sponsors of the event, said in a statement:
We are truly grateful for the generosity and enthusiasm of everyone who attended the Bling Ball. Your support means we can take significant steps toward creating a dedicated mental health service for children and young people in our community.

Research shows that 50% of mental health problems are established by age 14, and 75% by age 24, underscoring the urgent need for early intervention and support.
Tina Chamberlain, chief executive of Mind in Harrogate District, said:

By launching a dedicated mental health service for children and young people, we’re not just addressing a critical need; we’re investing in the future well-being of our communities. Thanks to the incredible support from the Bling Ball, we are one step closer to ensuring every young mind has the resources and help they need to flourish.
