A Knaresborough councillor has proposed creating a walking tour of film and TV locations in the town.
The idea was put forward by Knaresborough mayor, Cllr Helen Westmancoat, on behalf of Cllr Margy Longhurst at a Knaresborough Town Council meeting on Monday (December 15).
Cllr Longhurst, who was unable to attend Monday’s meeting, introduced free walking tours of the town during her term as mayor last year.
In the wake of Sky Cinema’s Tinsel Town – a festive comedy partly shot in the town – being released on December 5, Cllr Longhurst sought support for a dedicated film and TV tour route, which would be added to the existing walking tours.
A Very British Christmas, a 2019 film which tells the story of an opera singer who gets stuck in a remote Yorkshire village at Christmas, was also shot in Knaresborough.
The motion put forward to town councillors says the new route would "promote our town to new visitors and residents and support our local economy".
Cllr Longhurst told the Stray Ferret:
The new tour is inspired by the number of films and TV programmes that have taken place in Knaresborough over the years. In the last few months alone, we have been visited by John Craven for a 'Countryfile' feature and, of course, the new Christmas film 'Tinsel Town' - starring Kiefer Sutherland, Rebel Wilson, Derek Jacobi and Danny Dyer - was largely filmed in Knaresborough.

The motion was passed by Knaresborough Town Council, and Cllr Longhurst said a meeting will now be held to devise a tour route and decide which films and programmes would be included.
The tour would be free to attend and all the tour guides work on a voluntary basis.
Cllr Longhurst also told the Stray Ferret the only potential cost to the town council to create the tour would be some additional leaflets to promote it.
The Stray Ferret was one of a handful of news organisation at the Tinsel Town premiere in London on November 27.
