The second phase of a £260,000 resurfacing scheme, designed to tackle Sharow's pothole-ridden roads, is underway.

The first phase of the work began this month on New Road and is now complete.

With diversions in place, contractors employed by North Yorkshire Council are now working on the stretch of Sharow Lane which runs from the junction with Dishforth Road and into the village.

The progress made has been welcomed by local resident and roads campaigner James Thornborough, who told the Stray Ferret:

This is the first time ever that I have felt the council tax I pay has been spent usefully in the area where I live.

It's a big operation and I take my hat off to North Yorkshire Council's highways department for the way the work has been handled.

I'm sure that people who live in Sharow or who travel through it, will welcome the end of the potholes.

Over several years, Mr Thornborough remained in regular contact with the council's highways team about the potholes and the dangers of damage and injury they presented for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
