Pitch up at Deer Shed festival

Known for being a family-friendly festival, Deer Shed is a must for all ages, whether going for the day or for the whole three-day event.

Featuring music – some of the bands that will be playing this year include The Coral, Bombay Bicycle Club and CMAT – comedy, arts, science, theatre and sport for all ages, the festival has something for everyone, all to the backdrop of beautiful North Yorkshire parkland.

Listen to live music at Three's a Crowd

Singer Izzy Watson takes her inspiration from old-school jazz artists and you can listen to her vocals at gastropub Three's A Crowd.

Watch and take part in Annapurna Indian dancing

The Himalayan Garden and Sculpture Park will be bringing to life the story of environmentalist Saalumarada Thimmakka through the art of traditional Indian dancing, music and stories.

The afternoon will consist of nature, poetry and the joy of living, as well as the opportunity to join in the dance workshops.

Go to a rural show

Two well-known rural shows happening this weekend: Borrowby Show and The Aldborough and Boroughbridge Agricultural Show.

The first features everything you could possibly want from a summer show including a dog show, gymkhana, show jumping, scheduled animal classes, tractors, vintage cars and a 5km run to name but a few, as well as the Yorkshire Pudding Throwing World Championships.

The latter is now in its 109th year. Held at Newby Hall, it makes for a fun day out for all the family featuring competitive classes, family races and kids fancy dress, as well as all the usual summer show attractions.

Borrowby Show: under threes free, under 12 years old £5, £8 for age 12 plus, gates open from 10am, July 27, Hillside Rural Activities Park, Oaktree Bank South, Knayton, Thirsk, YO7 4AX.

The Aldborough and Boroughbridge Agricultural Show: children over 12 years old £5, adults £12 in advance, 10am-4pm, July 28, Newby Hall, Ripon, HG4 5AE.

Ripon Classic Car Gathering 2023

Go to Ripon Classic Car Gathering

Now in 29th year and organised by Ripon Old Cars, Ripon Classic Car Gathering features classic and vintage motorcycles, tractors, car clubs and specialist car stands.

The family-friendly event will have a plethora of other attractions taking place on the day such as children’s entertainment, live music, stalls and trade stalls of all descriptions, an auto jumble, games and quizzes as well as food and drink.

£5 per person, under 14s free, 9am-5pm, July 28, Ripon Racecourse, Boroughbridge Road, Ripon, HG4 1UG.
