Tom Hill has signed an 18-month contract with Harrogate Town

Harrogate Town have announced the signing of Liverpool’s Tom Hill.

The 22-year-old midfielder joins on a free transfer from the Premier League leaders on an 18-month deal with the Sulphurites.

Hill joined Liverpool as a five-year-old and made his professional debut for the Reds in 2019 in the Carabao Cup semi-final.

With Jurgen Klopp’s first team competing in the Club World Cup in Qatar, Liverpool under-23s then-manager Neil Critchley led a youthful lineup that included Hill to a 5-0 defeat against Aston Villa.

In 2020 Hill’s development was hampered by a serious knee injury which saw him sidelined for almost two years.

Despite this, Liverpool Academy reporter Lewis Bower said that Hill was “very well thought of” at the club and praised him for his tactical versatility.

Hill has featured in Liverpool’s Champions League squad this season but has not made an appearance.

Lloyd Kerry, Harrogate’s head of player recruitment, said:

We’ve watched him quite a few times this season and he’s always stood out, he’s what we look for in a player and we think it’ll be a really good fit for us.

He’s an energetic, versatile midfielder who can play across the midfield and off the front.

We predominantly see him as a box-to-box midfielder, he’s got good energy, is very good technically and competes well.

The Formby-born midfielder has been a key part of Liverpool's under-21 side this season, so far captaining them to 6th place in a 26-team league.

In his 10 appearances, he has chipped in with two goals and two assists.

Hill was not in the squad when Town played Liverpool U21s in the EFL Trophy in September.

He will take the number 19 shirt at Town and, subject to FA and EFL approval, will be available to face Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.
