The asking price for the Ripley estate, which includes a 14th century grade one listed castle, has been reduced from £21 million to £7.5 million.

The Stray Ferret revealed in June last year that the estate, which has been owned by the Ingilby family for 700 years, was to be put up for sale.

It went on the market in January — and now the price has been vastly reduced.

The latest £7.5 million listing is £13.5 million less than the original asking price.

According to property firm Carter Jonas, which is marketing the estate, the price includes the castle as well as the estate offices, coffee shop, gift shop, tearoom, ornamental gardens and parkland, lakes and deer park extending to 166 acres.

The private living space within the castle includes three reception rooms, 11 bedrooms, six bath/shower rooms, store rooms and a two-bedroom caretakers apartment.

The listing says:

The castle is steeped in history and owned by the same family for over 700 years, Ripley Castle forms the iconic centrepiece of the estate.

The vistas from the castle are simply breathtaking from virtually every room, particularly to the north and west overlooking the lakes and Deer Park. The parkland plays host to a wide range of commercial and community events including lakeside concerts, classic car rallies and the Ripley agricultural show.
