She has performed at some of the world's most prestigious venues and now, Harrogate's internationally-renowned soprano Sarah Fox will be making a rare appearance in Ripon for a Last Night of the Proms event.
Ripon Community Link's Walled Garden, which supports adults and young people with learning or physical disabilities, will be the beneficiary of the concert at Holy Trinity Church on the evening of Saturday, June 29. Tickets costing £15 are still available.
Event organiser Wendy Richardson, told the Stray Ferret:
Sarah has sung all over the world, including concerts at Sydney Opera House, London's Royal Opera House and the BBC proms at Glyndebourne.
She has performed with famous conductors including Sir Simon Rattle and has an extensive range of recordings both here and abroad.
Nevertheless, as a Yorkshire woman born and bred and educated at Giggleswick School, Sarah has never before sung with a brass band or a signing choir!
She is really looking forward to the experience of being accompanied by Ripon City Band conducted by Mark Sidwell, while pianist Alastair Stone, who is assistant organist at Ripon Cathedral, will accompany her for some of her songs.
The programme will include favourites from light opera, Edelweiss, the Best of ABBA and other favourites.
Ms Fox is joining with the walled garden's sing and sign choir to perform songs that include a couple from Mary Poppins.
Ms Richardson, added:
We are hoping concert-goers will wear red, white or blue or all three and join in some audience participation .
Flags will be provided and generous sponsorship means all money from tickets and refreshments will go to the support of the facilities the walled garden has to offer.
Tickets area available from the Ripon Walled Garden, Stuff 4 Offices on Fishergate and The Little Ripon Bookshop on Westgate.
