Jim Moir – otherwise known as comedian Vic Reeves – will be at a Harrogate art gallery tonight for the opening of an exhibition of his work.
The artist, who came to prominence with Bob Mortimer as comic duo Vic and Bob, is displaying a collection of 58 paintings celebrating all-things birds.
The Stray Ferret reported on the Birdland exhibition, which is taking place at RedHouse Gallery, when it was announced.
Mr Moir, who has a fascination with birds, has been described by the Guardian’s art critic as the “Warhol of bird painting”.
His show Painting Birds With Jim and Nancy Moir recently returned to Sky Arts for a second season.
The Leeds-born artist said:
I’m a big wildlife fan. When I started birding, I was very young, I remember all I had was natural history books. I loved bird watching as a kid and I could probably tell you what any bird was, to this day. It’s really important.
Mr Moir added he has “never not painted”, and that his art is influenced by Pop Art giants such as Warhol and Gilbert and George.
Yorkshire Rocks and Dinghy Fights, another of Mr Moir’s collections, was exhibited at RedHouse in 2022. It was his first exhibition on home turf in Yorkshire.
Birdland will run from today (September 12) until September 28.
Tonight's event is invite-only, but the exhibition will be available for viewing at RedHouse from 10am until 5pm on Mondays to Saturdays.
