A man accused of rape in Harrogate appeared in court yesterday (September 22).
According to court documents, Clifford Church appeared at York Magistrates Court accused of rape, attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and false imprisonment.
All of the offences are alleged to have happened in Harrogate on August 6.
North Yorkshire Police said Mr Church is from Harrogate, but he is listed as no fixed address by the court.
No pleas were entered to the charges and the case was transferred to York Crown Court, where the 62-year-old defendant will next appear on October 27.
North Yorkshire Police last month launched a manhunt to find Mr Church.
Several appeals were issued in the weeks following and Mr Church was soon believed to be in West Yorkshire. The force worked with West Yorkshire Police and located Mr Church in Bradford last Friday (September 19), when he was arrested.
Following his arrest, he was brought back to North Yorkshire for questioning and was charged on Sunday (September 21) evening.
