The shops will sell new, retro and American sweets.

A "quirky" sweet shop is to open in a brand-new unit on Market Place in Harrogate town centre this spring.

Mr Bailey’s Candy Cave will be located on the ground floor of the newly redeveloped Copper House, next to the rear entrance of Trespass. Two new jobs will be created.

The company already has shops in Halifax and nearby Hipperholme, with another opening soon in York.

Owner Darren Bailey said:

We sell sweets, chocolate bars, kids’ novelties, and we’ve got a two for £5 retro range. We sell pop too – there'll be a monster fridge – plus freeze-dried sweets and a small selection of American sweets.

The shop will be a bit different, quirky. It’s not one of those ‘olde worlde’ sweet shops – we've got a more modern approach – and we'll be open seven days a week.

He said he hoped to open Mr Bailey’s Candy Cave towards the end of March or early April.

The Harrogate unit has been formed over the last 18 months from the warehouse area of James Street pet supplies shop Paw Prints, which Mr Bailey also owns with his wife, Tracey Robertson. It is one of four pet shops in the group.

Mr Bailey said he hoped the new shop would replicate the success of Paw Prints. He said:

Opening Paw Prints on James Street was the best move we ever made. It’s a cracking store, and we’ve got a lot of regular customers.

Once people know we’re here, we’re hoping we’ll be quite busy.
