Readers’ Letters is a free weekly column giving you the chance to have your say on issues affecting the Harrogate district. It is an opinion column and does not reflect the views of the Stray Ferret. Send your views to letters@thestrayferret.co.uk.

This week, we’ve collated some of our readers’ comments left in the comments section of our new website.

The following two comments were left on a story about a loss of parking spaces to facilitate changes on Harrogate’s Victoria Avenue.

The council is hell-bent on wasting money.

With all these ideas they have, the consultants must be rubbing their hands. They must keep on praying for the council to come up with some more schemes.

Wait until it is election time, they may have to find a proper job.

Leonard Redmond

[It is] very foolish to prevent a Beech Grove to Victoria Avenue move, as it reduces travel distance through the town, thus reducing congestion and pollution.

It also reduces mileage and costs for the individual driver.

North Yorkshire Council needs to get out of this clobber the motorist mindset.

Peter Horton

It was ‘refreshing’ for a house music festival to be held in Harrogate

The following two comments were left on a story about a resident raising concerns over noise disruption during Love to Be Festival, which was held on the Stray two weeks ago.

I have lived in Harrogate all my life and saw many many people from Harrogate whom I knew enjoying themselves immensely.

It was one day and greatly refreshing to see Harrogate embrace an event such as this.

Murray Leighton

I’m a Harrogate resident who lives within earshot of Love to Be festival.

My wife and I made a point of walking past it to absorb some of the classic house vibes and commented on how good it is for Harrogate to attract something like this to the Stray.

I think there is a silent majority of Harrogate residents who are keen to see this town be more open to try interesting and different events, and look to be relevant to a demographic that is below retirement age.

Perhaps the silent majority should speak up more.
