Several main routes around Harrogate will be affected by major roadworks over the next two months.

Northern Powergrid said the disruption is part of a £20 million investment into upgrading Harrogate’s electricity network.

The first phase will see work carried out on York Place, between the Prince of Wales roundabout and the Oatlands Drive junction, between January 27 and February 20.

Northern Powergrid said it will involve closing two of the three lanes on York Place and setting up a one-way system.

Traffic management will be set up on Sunday, January 26, and residents impacted by the work will be able to access their homes at all times.

Once completed, work will then take place at the end of York Place, across the roundabout and on a 60-metre section of Otley Road.

Multiway traffic lights will be in place for the duration of this work, which is expected to take around four weeks to complete, Northern Powergrid said.

Work will then move to Jennyfield Drive and Ripon Road on February 24, which will be carried out until the end of March.

The Stray Ferret asked Northern Powergrid what kind of traffic management will be in place whilst this leg of the work is carried out. A spokesperson said these details would be released closer to the second phase of work commencing.

Northern Powergrid said residents living in the affected areas will receive letters from Balfour Beatty, the contractor, with further details.

It pledged to hand-deliver letters outlining its plans and remain visible across the community.

Northern Powergrid also said it will work with local businesses so they can continue to operate as normal during the scheme.
