Work to develop a £13 million healthcare clinic in Harrogate has started.

Spire Healthcare, which offers private and NHS healthcare provisions, is set to expand its Yorkshire offering with the new site, which will take over a former office building on Hornbeam Park.

The healthcare firm said the new Harrogate premises will offer diagnostic and Spire GP services, as well as treatment for dermatological, ophthalmic, gynaecological and urology conditions.

Minor orthopaedic procedures, such as surgery for hands and feet, will also be available at the new clinic.

The development is set to create 30 jobs for local people, the healthcare provider said, including roles for GPs, nurses, radiographers, healthcare assistants, housekeeping, admin and more.

Helen Atkinson, clinics director at Spire Healthcare, said:

The development of Spire’s Harrogate Clinic is part of a network of 10 new Spire clinics being developed in community areas across Britain.

This means that more people are closer to accessing healthcare and the diagnoses they need more quickly, so they can get better, sooner.

The clinic is expected to open later this year and aims to deliver up to 1,500 surgical procedures every year.

The opening will add to Spire Healthcare's existing 39 hospital sites across England, Wales and Scotland.

Ms Atkinson added:

We know that people want fast access to high quality care outside of the hospital setting, at times suited to their busy lives.

This is why we are opening new clinics which offer a range of services including ophthalmology, dermatology, gynaecology, orthopaedics, general practice, alongside complementary services such as sports medicine.

Providing medical care in the community leaves our hospital colleagues at the nearby Spire Leeds, Elland and Methley Park Hospitals with the capacity to continue delivering more complex treatment for patients.

There will also be free parking at the new Harrogate clinic.
