Harrogate district covid rate drops below 1,000 for first time since December

The Harrogate district’s covid rate has fallen below 1,000 for the first time in two months.

Currently, the district’s seven-day average stands at 890 per 100,000 people.

It’s the first time the rate has dropped below 1,000 since December 22.

However, the number remains above the county-wide average, which is 684 and the England rate of 709.

Latest figures from Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust show 26 patients are currently being treated at the hospital – down on 30 last week.

UK Health Security Agency data shows the daily number of positive covid cases is 191.

Meanwhile, the number of positive patients with covid who have died at Harrogate District Hospital since March 2020 stands at 221.

The latest death was reported on February 5, according to NHS England figures.

Harrogate district reports 278 covid cases as rate continues to rise

The Harrogate district’s covid rate has increased again after another 278 cases were reported today.

Latest UK Health Security Agency figures show that the district’s seven-day covid average has risen to 1,117 per 100,000 people — an increase on yesterday’s figure of 1,088.

It remains above the county average, which is 999, and the England rate of 1,006.

The number of positive covid patients currently being treated at the hospital stands at 20.

Meanwhile, the UK Health Security Agency has found a new strain of the Omicron variant, known as BA.2, in Harrogate.

The variant was found in four tests from 101 carried out by the Wellcome Sanger Institute, which is funded by the Department of Health, in the week up to January 15.

However, the dominant strain of Omicron continues to make up most cases in the district.

The UK Health Security Agency has designated BA.2 as a variant under investigation.

The Harrogate district’s covid rate has continued to fall after another 219 cases have been reported.

Harrogate district covid rate falls, raising hopes Omicron wave has peaked

The Harrogate district’s covid rate has fallen slightly, as 387 positive covid infections were reported today.

Latest government figures show that the district’s seven-day covid average is 1,527 per 100,000 people, down on yesterday’s figure of 1,533.

It remains below both the county average, which is 1,572, and the England rate of 1,592.

While the rate in the district has fallen, Amanda Bloor, accountable officer of the county’s NHS Clinical Commissioning Group, said it was “too soon to say with certainty” that infections are now levelling off.

Ms Bloor said while the rates were down overall, cases were climbing in older age groups and that this was a worry for under pressure hospitals.

She also said recent challenges around testing could be depressing the true rates of infection.

“The level of covid in our communities remains staggeringly high and regrettably, as the prevalence of covid spills over into older and more vulnerable parts of our society, we are beginning to see large numbers of people in North Yorkshire hospitalised with coronavirus.”
