The Harrogate district’s seven-day covid rate has fallen below 300 cases per 100,000 people for the first time since the start of July.
The rate now stands at 294 having declined rapidly from a high of 534 just 11 days ago.
Elsewhere, the North Yorkshire rate stands at 311 and the England average is 321.
The district has recorded another 79 new covid cases in the last 24 hours, according to today’s Public Health England figures.
Harrogate District Hospital has not reported a covid-related death in three-and-a-half months.

It means the covid death toll at the hospital since March 2020 remains at 179.
However, latest figures show that the hospital is treating nine covid patients compared with just three a week ago.

But, the hospital has so far gone more than three months without reporting a death from a patient who tested positive for covid.

Ripon Racecourse vaccine centre closes after giving 27,000 jabsThe covid vaccine site at Ripon Racecourse closed yesterday after staff and volunteers gave more than 27,000 jabs in almost six months.
It was led by the Yorkshire Health Network, which presented a plaque that thanked staff from the racecourse.
The centre had been set up in the Wakeman Bar, where race punters normally celebrate winners or commiserate over losses.
Yesterday’s baking hot sunshine was a sharp contrast to when the site opened on a snowy February afternoon.

The closure in Ripon means the former Lidl in Knaresborough and Memorial Hall in Pateley Bridge are now the only permanent covid vaccine sites still open in the Harrogate district, after the Great Yorkshire Showground site closed last month.
Both sites will be offering walk-in vaccines without the need for an appointment tomorrow.
First and second doses of the Pfizer jab will be available at Pateley Bridge from 8am to 5.30pm.
The Knaresborough site on York Road will be offering first and second doses of the AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Moderna vaccines from 9am to 1pm.

Harrogate district bucks trend of rising covid hospital patientsThe number of covid patients in North Yorkshire hospitals has increased by 40 per cent in the last week — but just three are in Harrogate.
A media briefing today revealed there are currently 112 covid patients in the county compared with 80 a week ago.
There are three patients in each of Scarborough and Harrogate hospitals, 19 in York and 87 in South Tees.
Coronavirus rates have soared to record levels. Harrogate’s seven-day average rate of infection is now 511 cases per 100,000 people, surpassing the previous January peak. But the number of hospital patients being at Harrogate District Hospital is well below the 67 seen in February.
The North Yorkshire average rate of infection is 570 and the England rate is 520.
Locally, Ripon south and east has become the new covid hotspot, with 69 infections in the last seven days.

Richard Webb, North Yorkshire County Council’s director of health and adult services told the media briefing of the North Yorkshire Local Resilience Forum there had been no cause for celebration following Freedom Day on Monday. He said:
“As we meet today it is quite a bleak and depressing record even though we have had on Monday the lifting of restrictions.
“The current county average across North Yorkshire is 570 per 100,000 and that is the highest recorded figure that we have had in North Yorkshire.
“We have the highest figure we have ever had in Scarborough, higher now than the surge that we had in November.
“So that is quite stark in terms of the situation that we are currently facing.”
Mr Webb added there had been a “significant spread of the virus amongst younger people”. However, case numbers were increasing in all age groups. He said:

“You may feel confident personally, however, other people may be anxious and they may not feel confident and they may be worried about the spread of this virus.”
The Harrogate district has recorded its highest covid rate since the start of the pandemic.
Today’s figure shows that the district has a seven-day average of 509 infections per 100,000 people.
It has surpassed the seven-day average of 497 that was recorded on January 7.
The overall North Yorkshire rate stands at 570 and the England average is 520.
Another 118 infections were recorded in the district today by Public Health England.
