Stray Pets Rescue Club: Do you have space in your heart for Trix, Rupert or Dapple and Tricky?

The Stray Pets Rescue Club is our monthly profile of rescue animals in and around the Harrogate district, searching for their forever family home. This month Trix, Rupert, Dapple and Tricky are looking for a home. 

Trix

Age: Eight months old

Trix’s Story: Trix was born with a congenital defect of her sternum, Pectus Excavatum. This required very specialist surgery and repeated operations to try and correct the defect so that she could breathe more normally.

Temperament: Trix has now been given a new lease of life and has now been able to play and run around like any other kitten, with lots of rest in between.

Ideal home: She needs an adult only home where someone is around most of the time. Trix would enjoy the company of gentle cat companions and although she will be timid to begin with once she gets to know you she is very affectionate.

Rupert

Age: three-years-old

Rupert’s story: Rupert is a sweet boy who came into the care of RSPCA after his owner could no longer meet his needs.

Temperament: This sweet pup is friendly and likes to be out and about meeting people and other dogs but he isn’t too leen on being left alone. He will need to be at home most of the time while he learn it’s ok to be left alone.

Ideal home: He is a very active dog so needs equally active adopters to give him the exercise he needs. Rupert will need a home where there is a secure fully enclosed garden with a six-foot fence. Rupert could live with another dog after a successful introduction at the centre and could live with children aged 10 years and over.

Dapple and Tricky

Age: Adult

Dapple and Tricky’s Story: Dapple came to the centre as an unclaimed stray, she had an injury to one of her toes which unfortunately was too old to be fixed so she had it amputated. Tricky is a sweet little rabbit who was born at the centre after his mum and dad were not wanted by their previous owner any longer.

Temperament: Dapple has great character and is a cheeky, happy girl but is also quite independent and likes to keep herself to herself and does not enjoy much handling. Tricky is a young, cheeky and playful little boy. These two rabbits have been bonded here at the centre and they love each other so much.

Ideal home: They would be suitable to live with children aged 14 years and over. Their home needs a hutch that is a minimum of six-foot with an attached run of a minimum eight-foot.

Stray Pets Rescue Club: Will, Jerry, Link and Mystic are in need of loving homes

The Stray Pets Rescue Club is our monthly profile of animals in and around the Harrogate district, searching for their forever family home. This month, Will the rabbit, Jerry the dog and cats Link and Mystic need your help.

Will

 Age: 1

Will’s Story: Will is a sweet natured boy who came to us as his previous owner could no longer take care of him.

Temperament: Will is an active playful boy who really enjoys so many things, he likes to investigate new things, he likes being around people but most of all he likes veg time.

Ideal home: We are looking for adopters who will keep him entertained and who already have an existing spayed female rabbit who he can bond with and share the rest of his life with. We are looking for accommodation where the hutch is a minimum of 6ft with an attached run of a minimum 8ft.

Jerry 

 Age: 14-15 months old

Temperament: He is a friendly dog with people, but can be unpredictable with other dogs. He is very lively and intelligent but has never been taught any manners.

Ideal home: He needs someone to spend a lot of time training him. He cannot be rehomed with children or any other animals, and will need a secure garden.

Link and Mystic

Ages: Six years old

Link and Mystic’s story: Mystic and Link came to the centre as their previous owner could no longer keep them. They are a very sweet and very bonded pair of cats who absolutely adore each other so we will be looking for a home where they will stay together.

Temperament: Both cats are very friendly and love a fuss, they love treat time and then love to snooze the day away together. Mystic and Link are super chilled out, they would love to be able to snuggle up on the sofa with you and keep you company while watching the TV or reading a book.

Ideal home: They need a nice quiet home which is adult only with no other pets. If you are looking for a pair of laid back cats to add to your family then Mystic and Link are the cats for you.

Stray Pets Rescue Club: Olaf, Monty, Gracie & Georgia need a loving home

The Stray Pets Rescue Club is our monthly profile of animals in and around the Harrogate district, in desperate need of a loving home. Could Olaf the rabbit, Monty the dog, or mother-and-daughter cats Gracie and Georgia find their new family with you? 

Gracie & Georgia 


Age: 9 and 6

Gracie & Georgia’s story: This mother and daughter came to Harrogate Cat Rescue after their owner of three years, who adored them, suddenly passed away. Before this, they were abused by their previous owner, including being burnt and thrown – which left them both severely traumatised.

Temperament: Georgia suffered the most abuse, so might be a little wary at first. Her mum, Gracie, is very affectionate and loves being fussed and groomed.

Ideal home: This pair are looking for a home where they can be together and relax again. Both are indoor cats, and have no knowledge of being outside.

Monty


Age: 8 months

Monty’s story: Monty is a Romanian rescue dog. He came to Miss Mollie’s Rescue when he was six months old, and lived with a 10 year old girl who he loved. Sadly their circumstances changed and he was returned to the rescue.

Temperament: Monty is good around other dogs and children, is lovely to walk, and loves having cuddles.

Ideal home: Monty is already house trained. He has bowed front legs (often called ‘Queen Ann Legs’), so may need trips to the vet; Miss Mollie’s would help with the costs.

Olaf


Age: 3 years 8 months

Olaf’s story: Olaf came to the RSPCA after he sadly lost his girlfriend and his previous owners were unable to keep him. He’s missing both his girlfriend and his home.

Temperament: Olaf is a sweet boy, looking for a new girlfriend. He is neutered and will need to be re-homed where there is an existing female already. Olaf also loves treat time and being hand-fed.

Ideal home: An adult only household with space to go outside and explore would be perfect for Olaf. His hutch needs to be at least 6 foot, with an attached run of at least 8 foot.

Stray Kitchen: Game on at the Great Yorkshire Show

Stray Kitchen is our column all about food written by renowned local produce expert, food writer and chef, Stephanie Moon. Stephanie is a champion of food produced in the UK and particularly in Yorkshire and the Harrogate district. 

Great Yorkshire Show time always makes me smile – the whole county gets into a spin and excited about it… and in my book, rightly so!

With my staff pass and negative lateral flow band attached, it was time to enter the ground, trolley brimming with goodies of the catering variety, pots, pans, plates, ingredients, and a veritable larder ready for those “oh Steph have you got any…” moments (as chefs doing cookery demonstrations tend to forget something). As you can imagine, when you are in the ground it is too late to go back to your kitchens and collect it.. I was MCing the Game Cookery Theatre where local chefs inspire the audience to give Yorkshire game a try – many for the first time.

Walking to the Game Cookery Theatre, seeing friends and feeling like the show really ‘must go on’, it was amazing to be back at the hallowed ground! All those hours of prepping for the show with Michelle Mackey and the rest of The Great Yorkshire Show team were condensed into just four days.

I love the show, and always have. I remember as a young girl having a day away from the farm with my parents for a trip to the show. It was a real treat and the wide-eyed wonderment of the show is so memorable for me. From the animals and food to always getting free pens and stickers from farm machinery and feed suppliers, and loving going around seeing the sights, we really had a grand day out. I even smile at remembering the collective family groaning when Dad would say we had to “just go in here for a cup of tea” – and we kids sat legs swinging on benches as my Dad talked cows feed with a specialist.. Then my turn, as I begged for a trip to the food hall!

These days I love the Great Yorkshire Show for different reasons – the people, the food, catching up with clients and good friends, the camaraderie of delivering a belting show, and the proper Yorkshire gumption of getting through these tricky times with true grit and a smile.

There is a feeling of celebration – it is great to be out and great to be doing!

I am proud to help run the Game Cookery Theatre for the show with a super team of chefs and game specialists and under the watchful eye of Daphne the Chief Steward of Country Pursuits. This year we had Mehdi and Heather from Fodder cooking up Yorkshire Puddings with Anita Rani, and some stand out chef demos with the likes of Callum Bowmer from Horto at Rudding Park, John Rudden from Grassington House, the Coniston Hotel boys Chris Oakden and Jonny Purnell from Skipton, and another Skipton and Ilkley favourite Simon Miller from La Casita.

Together we cooked up up some stunning great Yorkshire game with a lot of cheeky banter.
