Neuhaus Belgian Chocolate will open its shop on James Street in Harrogate next month.

The Stray Ferret exclusively revealed last week that work had begun to convert the unit formerly occupied by women’s footwear firm Carl Scarpa.

The company has now announced the Harrogate store will have a 'soft opening' on March 2. It will be Neuhaus' first UK store outside London.

A spokesperson for Neuhaus said:

"March 2 is the date we are working hard towards to welcoming our first customers and share our love for our brand and delicious chocolates.  We call it “soft launch” since we want to take a few days testing live all IT systems and allow our team a few days  to fully settle in before we activate our full opening marketing and social media campaigns."

The luxury chocolatier was established in 1857 and has stores in 50 countries, including the five in London.

A spokesperson for Neuhaus said:

"Harrogate holds a special place for Neuhaus due to its unique blend of spa and cultural elements, premium shopping venues, vibrant gastronomy, and year-round activities.
"It aligns perfectly with our brand values, and we believe the cosy high street shopping culture in Harrogate is an ideal fit for Neuhaus chocolates."

The store will rival Hotel Chocolat, which opened on James Street in 2021.

It will be open from 9am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and 11am to 5pm on Sundays.
