North Yorkshire Police is urging the owner of the pictured dog to come forward after a suspected poaching incident near Ripon.
The force said the incident, which occurred in Melmerby, happened at around 7pm on Monday (August 19).
Officers said a lurcher-type dog was found and taken into police possession. They are now “urgently” trying to identify the owner of the dog:
We urgently need to identify the owner of this dog. If it is your dog, we want to hear from you before we have to treat it as abandoned and it is re-homed.
The force is also appealing for information about a group of men seen in the area at the time, adding:
