A Harrogate golfer will compete in The Open today at Northern Ireland’s Royal Portrush Golf Club.
John Parry has qualified for the prestigious tournament for the second time in his career. His first appearance was in 2022.
He will play alongside the likes of Rory McIlroy, last year’s winner Xander Schauffele and world number one Scottie Scheffler.
Parry, 38, is currently ranked 7th on the DP World Tour's Race to Dubai leaderboard.
He is also currently ranked as the 116th best golfer in the world.
After a career full of ups and downs, he has had possibly his best 12 months to date.
On his return to the DP World Tour, he won his second ever tour event in Mauritius in January. His first one came 14 years earlier.
He also placed second at the Magical Kenya Open in February, meaning he accrued around £582,000 across the two events.
Reaching a career best ranking of 91st in the world, Parry qualified for the PGA Championship in May.
But the Harrogate-born star had a tough weekend in the United States, failing to make the cut.
Parry’s morale was boosted last weekend, however, when he finished tied for 55th place at level par at the Scottish Open.
In previous interviews, he told the Stray Ferret he loves the pressure of playing professional sport.
He will need to harness that at what is a difficult links course in Northern Ireland.
Parry is due to tee off at 1.04pm in a group with American duo Michael Kim and Bud Cauley.
The 153rd Open will end on Sunday.
