Cllr Williams talking to a police officer in Ripon.

Police have pledged to step-up patrols in Ripon following concerns about drug-dealing.

The city’s neighbourhood policing sergeant for Ripon recently met Councillor Andrew Williams, the Mayor of Ripon, to discuss drug problems.

They also talked about illegal e-bike use and other anti-social behaviour issues in the city.

North Yorkshire Police said in a statement today (August 4) it would increase patrols, take targeted enforcement activity and work in partnership to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour.

The statement added:

Please be assured that North Yorkshire Police is actively dealing with these reported issues and working closely with partner agencies to identify offenders, disrupt criminality, and address the concerns affecting our communities.

We understand the impact these issues have on residents, businesses, and visitors, and we want the community to know that these concerns are being taken seriously.

You can help too. Please continue to report incidents, anti-social behaviour, and any suspicious activity to North Yorkshire Police via 101, online, or 999 in an emergency. The information you provide helps us build intelligence, target offenders, and take positive action.

Cllr Williams told the Stray Ferret his meeting with police had been “positive” and he welcomed today’s news.

He said:

Residents have complained of antisocial behaviour and I have witnessed firsthand the issues they have had to endure.

I believe the police response will be robust and I have every confidence, having raised the matter directly with them, that they will take appropriate action and we will see a resolution.
