Starbeck and into Knaresborough are set to be impacted by roadworks for several months from next month.

Northern Gas Networks today said it will carry out “essential work” in the area to continue the “safe and reliable supply of gas”.

Ageing metal pipework will be replaced and upgraded as part of the scheme, which will begin on Monday, September 16.

The maintenance work is due to take 20 weeks to complete and will cause intermittent disruption for motorists.

Northern Gas Networks said phase one of the project will begin in the Hillbank Grove, Hillbank Road and Maple Close area, before moving to the A59 High Street on Monday, October 14.

Bogs Lane, which re-opened in May following an 18-month closure, will be closed at the junction with High Street for three weeks as part of the work – from October 14 until November 4.

The gas operator added footpaths will close and temporary lights will be installed on the Harrogate Road section of the A59 for five weeks, from October 27 until November 24.

As part of phase two, which will commence in the new year, work will return to the A59 towards Knaresborough.

It will finish at Mother Shipton’s Cave, where more footpath closures and temporary lights will be put in place.

Mark Mawhood, the firm’s operations manager, said:

We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it is vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Harrogate.

We want to assure residents and road users that we will be working hard to complete this essential scheme as safely and as quickly as possible.
