A 17-year-old was taken to hospital with cuts after violence flared on Nidderdale Greenway last night.
North Yorkshire Police was called to Nidd viaduct, near Bilton Lane, at 4.43pm following an alert from the ambulance service.
A police helicopter circled the area and the viaduct was later cordoned off at 5.30pm.
The force issued an update just after 9pm, which said an "altercation" had taken place. Officers found a teenager with "lacerations" when they arrived at the viaduct, it added.
The statement said the teen was taken to hospital, where he is receiving treatement for injuries which are "not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing".
Police have since launched an investigation, and last night said a cordon was likely to stay in place in the area to allow for forensic investigations to be carried out.
Detective chief inspector Carol Kirk said:
There is no room for this level of violence in North Yorkshire and a full investigation is now underway. I would urge anyone who has any information to contact us immediately.
The victim is receiving treatment in hospital but thankfully hasn’t suffered any serious injuries.
Harrogate is a close community and understandably an incident like this will bring great concern to the public. We will be increasing patrols in the area this evening and anyone who has any concerns should speak to an officer.
Police are now appealing for witnesses.
No further details have been released at this stage.
