Tesco is recruiting staff for its new multimillion-pound superstore in Harrogate, which is due to open in October.
The supermarket giant has apparently already filled some vacancies, as only six jobs – four ‘Tesco colleagues’ and two ‘colleague drivers’ – are currently being advertised on its website.
The development, on the old gasworks site at New Park, is expected to create more than 100 jobs.
The hours of work vary between positions, with shifts lasting between five and eight hours, and starting as early as 7am and as late as 10pm.
The job adverts do not specify rates of pay, but say they “start at” £12.45 an hour for colleagues and £13.35 for drivers.
The new Harrogate superstore has been a long time coming. Tesco was first granted planning permission to build on the site in 2012, but the project foundered due to economic headwinds, environmental concerns and planning delays.
The development ground back into motion in 2021, when a new planning application was submitted, but was further delayed when the main building contractor went bust.
Planning permission was granted in February 2023 to build a store, petrol station and a 209-space car park.
Revised plans, which gained planning permission last year, will see a greener version of the store built than was originally envisaged, with solar panels, timber frames and cladding, rainwater collection and a community garden to be created next to Oak Beck by charity Horticap.
