Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch was in Harrogate today (July 3) to launch the party’s local elections campaign in Yorkshire.

Ms Badenoch addressed party members at the Pavilions of Harrogate at the Great Yorkshire Showground, where she set out the Conservatives’ local and national vision.

It was her second trip to the town this year: she was at Harrogate Convention Centre for the party’s spring conference in March when she also visited shops on Cold Bath Road.

Yorkshire Conservatives’ regional chair, Councillor George Jabbour, said more than 500 people attended.

He added:

Hosting such a successful event has been a thrilling experience.

The demand to attend the lunch with our party leader was so high that we had to move the venue from Northallerton to Harrogate so we can accept as many requests as possible.

Even with this much larger venue, we had a long waiting list. It just goes to show how interested people are in listening to what the most popular party leader in Britain has to say.

Local elections will take place across Yorkshire in May 2027.

A Conservatives and Independents group currently runs a minority administration on North Yorkshire Council.

The group has 44 of the 90 seats at County Hall in Northallerton.
