More details on the relocation of mental health services to Jesmond House in Harrogate have emerged.

Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust currently offers mental health services at three sites across Harrogate: Dragon Parade, Windsor House and in Jennyfields.

But the trust is to move its adult mental health services (AMHS) and children and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) into Jesmond House on Victoria Avenue next year.

It was formerly occupied by North Yorkshire Council’s adult social care staff until the authority vacated the building in February as part of a £600,000 money-saving bid.

The Stray Ferret approached the trust to find out why it is bringing the services under one roof and asked if the soon-to-be vacant units will be replaced by other NHS services.

A spokesperson said for the trust said:

Windsor House is shared with other businesses. The Dragon Parade clinic building is old, and its configuration is across three floors without a life. This means that accessibility and reconfigurations options are limited.

There will be no reduction in the services we offer.

The spokesperson told the Stray Ferret the lease for the Jennyfields site lasted until 2026, so the move was “subject to a review”.

They said the relocation to Jesmond House will provide more space, including more clinical therapy rooms, and create a therapeutic and welcoming environment for patients.

Jesmond House will be more accessible and offers better access to parking and transport links, the spokesperson added.

The spokesperson also said co-locating the teams will make the transitions for people moving from child to adult services smoother.

Plans

The trust applied for permission to make minor alterations to Jesmond House, including creating a new entrance to separate CAMHS and AMHS patients, from North Yorkshire Council.

The plans said patient numbers could increase by up to 30% because of the move.

The council approved the plans last week.
