A row of buildings on Harrogate’s Parliament Street look set to be repaired, after scaffolding went up last week.

The space above Hera, Santorini Express and the former Rhodes Wood, Sofa Workshop and Bijouled shops has stood vacant since the end of 2019, when Moko Lounge nightclub closed, and was seriously damaged by vandals in March 2024.

Their run-down appearance has attracted comment from Stray Ferret readers, one describing the broken windows of the upper storeys as looking “disgraceful”, “dangerous”, and “like a squat”.

But now, work on the properties, which lie on the north-east corner of the traffic lights at the bottom of the hill, appears to have started, with scaffolding wrapping around both sides of the block, on Parliament Street and King's Road.

The owner, Forward Investment Properties Harrogate LLP, was originally granted planning permission in 2024 to create seven serviced apartments, but amended its plans the following year. It now has consent to create eight commercial units for use classes E(c), E(e) and E(g)(i), which relate mainly to offices.

The Stray Ferret has tried to contact Forward Investment Properties Harrogate LLP through its accountants, but has yet to receive a response.
