Harrogate Town has had plans for a new clubhouse at its Wetherby Road stadium approved.
The club tabled a planning application to build the two-storey facility in the north-west corner of the ground back in March this year.
It would be used to serve fans refreshments on match days and include an upper floor area for supporters to gather.
Harrogate Borough Council has now given the go-ahead for the plan.
The facility would be needed for the club to meet its English Football League membership criteria, which requires all member clubs to provide refreshment facilities for home and away fans in separate areas of the ground.
A planning report by Harrogate Borough Council said:
“This application seeks to construct a two storey building as a spectator facility.
“This is to ensure the club has sufficient facilities for home fans, further contributing to meeting its EFL membership requirements.”
The club has already seen a number of developments approved by the council since promotion, including a new ticket office and turnstiles at the EnviroVent Stadium which were backed by the council in April 2021.

Harrogate Town new scoreboard plan approved
A new scoreboard at Harrogate Town has been approved as part of the club’s stadium redevelopment.
The digital screen will sit in the south west corner of the EnviroVent Stadium.
Besides displaying the score, it will show substitutions made during a game and other match information, such as transport or safety news.
Harrogate Borough Council has now given approval for the plan.
The EnviroVent Stadium on Wetherby Road is due to undergo a £3.5 million upgrade, funded by chairman Irving Weaver.
A statement submitted to the council said:
“The new scoreboard will complement the stadium and improve the spectator experience.”

The club has said it is the board’s ambition to create a “sustainable and thriving club, for future generations to enjoy”.
The club also has to abide by English Football League criteria for its ground following Town’s promotion to League Two in 2020.
The proposals include a new seated stand, match day bar and improved ticketing facilities.
The ground on Wetherby Road has been home to the Sulphurites since 1920, but in recent years it has struggled to keep pace with the club’s rapid rise up the divisions into the English Football League.
Simon Weaver: Harrogate Town have been through a ‘cycle of change’Harrogate Town manager Simon Weaver has said the club has been through a “cycle of change” as they head into the second week of the new season.
Town got off to a winning start last weekend against Swindon Town, picking up three points after a 3-0 win at the EnviroVent Stadium.
Weaver told the Stray Ferret that the squad had undergone wholesale changes ahead of the campaign, which needed to be made alongside a fresh style of play.
Town played a 3-4-2-1 formation last weekend and gave debuts to the likes of Matty Daly — one of 10 new additions to the squad.
Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s clash against Crewe Alexandra, Weaver said he hoped the changes would bring greater depth to the squad and prevent Town from dropping falling away again later in the season.
He said:
“We hope so. We’re excited about the start of the season. We’ve made so many new changes — new style of play, new training ground. We’ve had a whole cycle of change with the players.
“The last couple of years we just haven’t had the depth we needed. Injuries really hit us in the face. We’ve now got younger lads coming through and we can keep people fresh and have a good season throughout.”

Debutant Daly, who is on loan from Huddersfield Town, was on the scoresheet in the opening game, alongside Jack Muldoon and Alex Pattison.
The formation and style contributed to Town scoring three of their five shots on target.
When asked if he was happy with how the season has started, Weaver said the club had “a long way to go”.
He said:
“We are only 10 metres into a marathon so we have a long way to go.
“We have more pace now. Last season the counter attacks against us were quite potent. We didn’t have the right shape defensively. We can now be more patient with the ball.”
Town take on Crewe at Gresty Road at 3pm tomorrow.
The Railwaymen were relegated last season after finishing bottom of League One.
Town will be without Rory McArdle, Will Smith, Josh Falkingham and Max Wright who are injured for the clash.

Harrogate Town to kick off third Football League seasonHarrogate Town are set to kick off their third season in the Football League this afternoon.
Town will take on Swindon Town at the EnviroVent Stadium at 3pm.
Simon Weaver’s men will be hoping to consolidate their position in the EFL League Two and build upon last season’s 19th place finish.
Speaking ahead of the opening day, Weaver said pre-season had gone well for Town.
He said:
“It’s been a positive pre-season, as tough as we have ever given the lads to be honest both in the physical workloads and the games and the opposition they have had to face.
“When you take into consideration quite wholesale changes to the squad, it’s been quite challenging. But I think the last three performances have been positive and the results have suggested an upward curve as well.”
Wholesale changes
Town have made 10 new signings during the summer transfer window so far and seen 11 players leave the club.
Among the new arrivals is Tyler Frost, who signed a six-month deal this week and will be available for the Swindon clash.
Weaver said the squad needed to improve defensively on last season.
He said:
“We were reflecting on last season and there was no getting away from that defensively we weren’t good enough.
“We looked at how we could revamp it individually. First of all, we started with the shape and looked at the shape of our team and then looked at the players – round pegs for round holes – and then fitted the players for each of those positions we needed to sort out.
“There’s more youth about us as a squad, but also at the same time it has been more challenging bringing in more pedigree as well which is necessary. We looked at little bit raw for the level at times last year.
“But hopefully there is more flexibility within our squad now to be able to tweak and change when necessary, even within games. But overall we’re happy with the recruitment.”
Tough opening game
Town will take on last season’s play-off semi-finalists Swindon Town for their opening game.
Rory McArdle will miss the game with an injury sustained at the end of last season.

Meanwhile, skipper Josh Falkingham also misses the game through injury, but is closer to a return to action.
New signing Max Wright will also miss out with an ankle injury which will keep him out for four months.
Weaver described the clash against Swindon as a big game for the opening match.
He said:
Harrogate Town plans new scoreboard as part of stadium improvements“They don’t get much bigger do they? They reached the play off semi-final stage last season and they’re a strong outfit, aren’t they?
“Historically, they’ve played at the top level and they’ve got some good quality players and it will be a test.
“This week, we’ve just tried to inform the lads of what to expect in terms of their style of play and how they like to keep the ball and get into key areas.”
Harrogate Town has lodged plans for a new scoreboard as part of its ground redevelopment.
The digital screen would sit in the south west corner of the ground, under plans submitted to Harrogate Borough Council.
The board would be used to show supporters the score, substitutions made during a game and other match information, such as transport or safety news.
Harrogate Town currently has no scoreboard in place.

Harrogate Town made £1m loss in first Football League seasonHarrogate Town posted a loss of £1 million during its first season in the English Football League.
The club secured professional league status for the first time in its history in 2020 after winning the National League play-offs.
Town then played its entire 2020/21 season in League Two behind closed doors due to the covid pandemic.
According to accounts filed with Companies House, the club published a loss of £1.019 million for the 12 months to June 2021.
The club said it was not alone in struggling through the pandemic and added that growing its fanbase now that spectators are allowed into stadiums was “a priority”.
The accounts added that the club’s cash flow forecast for the next 12 months was dependent on Irving Weaver, chairman and majority shareholder, not requesting £3.7 million he has currently put into the club in order for it to meet its liabilities.
The accounts said Mr Weaver “does not intend to seek repayment of the amounts due for the period covered by the forecast”.
A spokesperson for Harrogate Town said:
“As with all sporting venues, entertainment and hospitality organisations, the club has had a challenging time during the pandemic with not being able to operate fully so we are obviously still playing catch up.
“As you would expect, as a relatively new league status club, and with fans allowed in for the first time this season since being promoted into the league, we are still growing our fan base and that will remain our priority.
“We have lots going on behind the scenes and will be announcing details of all new developments as soon as we are in a position to do so ahead of the new season but we are still in the planning and negotiations stages on various projects.”

No. 12: Harrogate Town — a year of history and milestonesIn this article, which is part of a series on the 15 stories in the Harrogate district that shaped 2021, we look at another remarkable year for Simon Weaver’s men.
Harrogate Town spent 2021 making history and setting new milestones.
Covid restrictions had prevented Town fans from watching their team at Wembley in 2020 and gain promotion to the English Football League for the first time ever.
So when the season began in August, thousands flocked to Wetherby Road to see the next chapter in the fairytale.
FA Trophy winners
Fans, however, were denied a second trip to Wembley in May for the FA Trophy final against Concord Rangers.
The final had been delayed for a year due to covid and Town were favourites because they had gained promotion in the period since the match was due to be played.
Josh Falkingham scored the only goal as Town ran out 1-0 winners to life the silverware,

As the saying goes, winning becomes a habit and such was the case under head coach Simon Weaver that the club tied him down to a long-term contract in July.
The contract would see Weaver’s time at the club extended to 15 years if seen out, a feat which cannot be said for many of modern football clubs. He is already the longest serving manager in English football.
The consistent progress the team has made under Weaver continued when the new season began.
A good start, which put the club among the play-off positions, climaxed with a 6-1 hammering of Scunthorpe United in October in front of a record home crowd of 3,180.
Harrogate’s league form subsequently fell away, but a strong second half could yet see them feature in the play-offs.
FA Cup heroics
But the club has compensated for some poor results in the league with a sensational FA Cup run, which has seen it book a place in the third round for the first time in its history.
A last minute winner against two-time winners Portsmouth at Fratton Park had fans dreaming of a Premier League side visiting Wetherby Road.
But it was not to be. Instead the club will try to write history once again by playing Luton Town for a place in the fourth round.
If 2022 is half as exciting, Harrogate fans can look forward to another 12 months of milestones.
Covid postpones Harrogate Town’s second festive fixtureA coronavirus outbreak in the Mansfield Town squad has forced the English Football League (EFL) to postpone the second of Harrogate Town’s festive fixtures.
Harrogate Town were due to welcome in-form Mansfield Town to the EnviroVent Stadium on Wednesday, December 29.
It is unclear at this stage when the game between 11th place Harrogate Town and 9th place Mansfield Town, will be played out.
Town’s away clash with Bradford City which was scheduled for Boxing Day was also postponed due to coronavirus cases in the rival’s squad.

A spokesperson for the EFL said:
“Mansfield Town’s forthcoming Sky Bet League Two fixture against Harrogate Town on Wednesday 29 December has been postponed.
“Mansfield informed the EFL that it would be unable to fulfil the fixture at the EnviroVent Stadium due to a number of positive COVID-19 cases in their squad.
“In light of the increased transmission rate of the Omicron variant, the EFL will now review the circumstances surrounding the postponement.
“In addition, it will assist affected clubs throughout this challenging period to help them mitigate against the risk of infection amongst players and staff, while ensuring their obligations to the EFL regulations are maintained.”
Town are next due to play Port Vale on New Year’s Day
Harrogate Town boss nominated for Manager of the MonthHarrogate Town manager Simon Weaver has been nominated for the manager of the month award in League Two of the English Football League.
It’s been a dream start to the new campaign for Town despite a covid outbreak forcing the club to postpone two league fixtures.
Weaver’s men are currently sitting pretty at the top of table, with four wins and one draw from their opening five games.
August saw home wins against Rochdale and Barrow and a 1-1 draw with Exeter.
Their only defeat last month came in a 0-2 loss to Leyton Orient.

Harrogate Town to return to action after covid outbreakHarrogate Town are set to return to action today after a covid outbreak set back the start of the club’s League Two campaign.
Town will face Barrow at the EnviroVent Stadium, two weeks since the club last played against Rochdale in their opening game.
The outbreak forced the club to postpone two EFL fixtures and forfeit a Carabao Cup tie against Rochdale.
Five players tested positive and others had to self-isolate as a result of the outbreak.
Manager Simon Weaver said on Thursday that the postponed fixtures were frustrating, but added that the players were now through the worst of it.
“Initially it was a feeling of frustrating and deflation really. We’d come off the back of a really good opening day win and the circumstances of a last minute winner from Warren as well. It was a blow but it’s not insurmountable.
“Covid is part of our everyday life now so people getting it wasn’t a total surprise and I think we’ve reacted strongly to it. The players have rested up and come through the worse of it now and we’re looking forward to a couple days training and a big game.”
Not using covid as an excuse
Town returned to training on Thursday morning following the enforced break, which saw games against Crawley and Leyton Orient rearranged.

Weaver said the players would have two sessions ahead of Barrow, but would not use covid as an excuse for the short preparation.
He said:
“I think we don’t use covid as an excuse, no matter what.
“We’re firmly focused on the game and we’ve got that excitement in our stomach like how it was on the opening day.
“The crowd were exhilarating on that day and really lifted us all so we’re really looking forward to getting back home and that’s the lucky thing about it, the first game back is at home – a place we’ve got very good recent memories of.”

Weaver expects a physical game
Both Barrow and Harrogate Town were promoted from the National League in 2019/20, but Town got the upper hand over the Cumbrian side last season.
Jack Muldoon scored both goals in two 1-0 wins over Barrow in both clubs inaugural season in the EFL.
Barrow will be without striker Dimitri Sea, Jamie Devitt, midfielder Mike Jones and Tom Beadling for today’s clash.
Sea will remain on the sidelines as Barrow follow concussion protocols and Devitt has a thigh injury.
Jones is short of fitness and Beadling faces a long period out due to a partial tear to his crucial ligament.
Town manager Weaver said he expects Barrow to be more physical this season.
He said:
“They’re up for it and I think a bit more physical this season, and under Mark Cooper they have a lot of experience.
“But, we also think we have a lot in our ranks which can allow us to have a real good go at them and play our way. It’ll be great to have the fans behind us like against Rochdale and to win would be great, especially in the circumstances.”
